Real Life Advice: 36 Lessons I’ve Learnt In 36 Years https://sarahroxannewatson.com/real-life-advice-36-lessons-ive-learnt-in-36-years/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=real-life-advice-36-lessons-ive-learnt-in-36-years https://sarahroxannewatson.com/real-life-advice-36-lessons-ive-learnt-in-36-years/#respond Thu, 05 May 2022 12:00:00 +0000 https://sarahroxannewatson.com/?p=202 As my next birthday approaches (gonna be 37 and STILL fabulous!!) I thought I would share 36 lessons I’ve learnt in 36 years. Life advice from each year of life so far. Now if you’re new here ( hi I’m Sarah, welcome!) you would not know that I’ve had a lot of interesting experiences and they each have taught me so much. From living in another country for 6 years, healing past assault, starting over from scratch to starting multiple businesses and achieving my goal of being a full time entrepreneur and so much more. Here’s my real, uncut life advice. My hope is that at least one of these gems helps you heal, pushes you, inspires you or gives you the confirmation you needed to step out on faith and just do the damn thing! Life Advice You Need To Hear Your parents did the best they could. It’s very hard to show or give a person (even your own child) love, affection etc if they were never shown how. Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me……..is straight bullshit! Names hurt. So be careful what you say to people and how you treat them. The so called “nerd” or “loser” that you bullied or sat back and laughed at when they were getting bullied by others, may grow up to be your boss one day. No matter how hard or embarrassing it may seem now. It’s not the hardest or most embarrassing thing you’ll have to face. Trust me, you have a lot more living to do. Practice seeing the good in all of your experiences from now. There’s always something good you can take away from every situation. Once the dust clears, you’ll see it. You don’t have to rush, boys aren’t going anywhere. Question things you don’t understand until it makes sense to you, for you. Your parents don’t always know what’s best for you. More often then not they just want to protect you from making mistakes that they made or want to see you achieve goals they didn’t. Make sure you pursue paths that resonate with you and share your thoughts with them. Don’t be afraid of looking stupid if it means you get to try something new. It’s early but society is going to make you feel like you’re running out of time and that you have to have everything figured out before university. It’s all a lie. No means no. It wasn’t your fault. I promise you will heal from this with time. Life Advice For Your 20s Forgive yourself and don’t be afraid to be vulnerable again. People aren’t always as they seem. Pay attention to their actions, not words. You don’t have to do or be one thing for they rest of your life. However don’t focus on more than one to two things at a time. If you spread yourself too thin it will feel like it’s taking a very long time to reach your goals. Laser focus is key. Just start. There will never be a perfect time. You will be a completely different person in a decade. So don’t sweat the small stuff, enjoy your journey. Move in silence. The people you love the most are the ones that are going to hurt you the most. Sometimes without even realizing it. You’ll be ok, I promise. He’s not the one. If you are comprising yourself all the time for the relationship to work. He’s not the one. Starting over doesn’t mean you’ve failed. If you haven’t started already, now’s the time to start making decisions based on what you really want for yourself. Not your parents or friends. You. Stop caring so much about what other people think about you. Life Advice For Your 30s Hustle culture is toxic. You can’t sleep when your dead because your dead and it’s probably because you didn’t get enough sleep and aren’t taking care of your health in pursuit of stuff. If you aren’t married with kids and own your own home by now, you are NOT a failure. If the idea of getting married, having kids or owning a home does not spark joy, you don’t have to want those things. Stop sharing your business with everyone. Most people really don’t care that much and are secretly hoping you fail….miserably. I hope you stopped doing this in your 20s, however in case you haven’t, stop getting advice about your relationship from your single (sometimes bitter) friends. Be a seeker of truth. Don’t be afraid to question what you’ve been taught and believe. Make self care a priority, not an after thought. Learn to make your money work for you. Create a plan to stop trading your time for money. Learn to say No Learn to set boundaries and walk away from people who continue to cross them The Divine has always had your back. Everything is truly working out for your good in the end. Last but certainly not least Karma doesn’t miss As you achieve your goals and live the life you’ve worked so hard for you will have haters, sometimes within your circle or family. It just comes with progress. Embrace it and keeping doing you. Keep your circle small BONUS TIP: Gratitude is the key to unlocking everything you desire Remember that this is your journey. Only you can truly decide how you want to experience it. Take some or all of these gems of life advice and never forget you are loved and supported. Share this post with a friend!

The pandemic really put a damper on all of the travel I wanted to do but it also reminded me that I can experience a piece of almost every country right here in Toronto. Today I’m being a tourist in my own city starting with a solo outing to High Park. Things To Do In Toronto You can watch the vlog to check out the park and how my day went as well as some travel tips about the park. This won’t be the last outing though, I plan on doing more Toronto and Ontario outings, day trips and weekend getaways to fully take advantage of this beautiful province. Whether you are a solo traveller, travelling with friends or a local join me on this amazing journey! Maybe we can even share stories someday. Here’s the High Park Toronto official website to help you plan your next trip https://www.highparktoronto.com/

OROTE – Best Restaurant In Toronto? https://sarahroxannewatson.com/orote-best-restaurant-in-toronto/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=orote-best-restaurant-in-toronto https://sarahroxannewatson.com/orote-best-restaurant-in-toronto/#respond Sun, 06 Mar 2022 05:04:36 +0000 https://sarahroxannewatson.com/?p=154 Food is my love language! So when my foodie friend Diane told me about Orote (pronounced o-ro-tae) restaurant in Toronto and that they have a six…yes……six-course tasting menu, I said, just name the time and day girl! Located just off Bloor Street West at Dufferin in the Dufferin Grove neighbourhood, literally a 3 minute walk from Dufferin station, on Havelock. The set up and decor of Orote was giving modern, fresh and classy but not pretenious. Great mix of masculine and feminine, with concrete elements from the floors, walls and the bar space paired with warm wood, even the chopsticks fit in. Clearly design was considered and I loved it! ATMOSPHERE/DESIGN – I give it a 9 out of 10. The only reason why I didn’t give a 10 out of 10 is because although the space is intimate (which I love) it’s not the place you would hang out with friends for hours or lose track of time with a date because they are open from 5pm-11pm Wednesday to Saturday with limited seating. We never felt rushed, but we knew that the next reservation would probably need our table soon. Our reservation was at 5pm and we left around 7pm. Orote Restaurant Six-Course Tasting Menu Alright, let’s get to the food. This is a six-course fixed prix menu, no a la carte here but they do have add ons and can modify the dishes if you have any allergies. Our first course was pork ham with kohlrabi topped with shrimp powder. Our waiter Nik described it way better but I just wrote down what was written on the menu. First glance, they looked like mini slices of uncooked bacon. I know you’re probably thinking, that doesn’t sound appetizing, but it wasn’t what I was expecting. It was light, fresh and well balanced. My favourite thing on my plate hands down were the greens. Great way to start our dinner but I give it a 2.5 out of 5. Next course was the lobster and pumpkin skewers with black garlic and walnuts. This was my second favourite dish on the menu but I’m a bit biased because I love seafood. Diane and I shared plates so that we could try everything but I really wish I had both skewers. The lobster was so tender and the pumpkin had a tasty sweetness to it! Amazing and I give this dish a 3.5 out of 5. Our third course was greens with mussels and Korean radish. First thing I thought when I saw this dish was ” Mussels? Where? ” lol. But alas these perfectly cooked morsels of meat were under the greens and radishes awaiting their big reveal. Oh and they were worth the wait. I really enjoyed the mussels and radish and the greens gave just enough bitterness. I rate this dish a 3 out of 5. I would have given it a 4 if there were more mussels. Best Restaurants In Toronto By the time our fourth course came out I was starting my second glass of wine. By the way did I mention how knowledgeable and friendly the staff were? As a person who likes to capture all of these beautiful memories on camera, not once did I feel like the staff were irritated by my need to take a picture of everything. In the bar area especially is a picture takers dream because you get to watch your food being prepared right in front of you. The tofu and mushroom dumplings were also very good. I love soup so I was happy to see some kind of brothy dish. Everything was just so fresh, light and flavourful. Even the dumpling shell was seasoned. I’m Jamaican, we season everything so I can appreciate this. It’s important for me to be able to taste everything on the plate individually and enjoy it as well as the dish as a whole. I give this dish a 3 out of 5. Now for the mains which are a choice between pork loin with fermented leeks, kale and broccolini or butter poached Halibut with a sesame paste, portebello mushroom and bok choy sitting in dashi and portebello jus. Both dishes were great. The halibut just fell apart how tender it was and that sesame paste really brought this dish together for me. I would give it a 3.5 out of 5. However my favourite dish of the night hands down was the pork loin and that’s saying a lot considering that I’m not a big pork fan. It was perfectly done, the fermented leek was fantastic and your girl loves veggies so this dish had the right amount of everything for me. It didn’t need sauce because the natural juices from the meat and the greens were just right. This dish gets a 4 out of 5 from me. Last but certainly not least dessert, I describe it as a coffee mousse. I’m big on texture and this dessert give smooth and light with a bit of crunch from the sesame, barley and buckwheat. However this was my least favourite dish simply because I’m not a big coffee fan. So I can’t really appreciate how great this dish would have been. Diane loved it and said it was her favourite dish. She describes it like eating air. Very tasty air! My rating is a 2 out of 5 but it would have definitely received a higher score if it wasn’t for the coffee. Downtown Toronto Restaurants Overall I rate Orote a 8 out of 10. I hope they will one day offer a lunch menu and it’s unfortunate that the space is small so your seating time might be limited to the standard two hours for two people. Aside from that I loved it and would definitely recommend Orote. The service was excellent even as the restaurant got busier our servers were able to come out each time and explain every course as well as give their recommendations for wine pairing. The only reason none of the dishes received a 5 out of 5 is because although they all had their highlights, no one complete dish really wowed me. The atmosphere and vibe was very inviting, cozy and hip, with music that played at a perfect level in the background so that you could have a comfortable conversation. I loved the food here and I can’t wait to go back a few months from now to taste a completely different menu. Orote is definitely worth trying out and I can confidently say that it is a contender for one of the best restaurants in Toronto. Whether you’re planning a date night or a group dinner Oroto won’t disappoint.
